Brits are Syrian

Via Josh Landis’s Syria Comment blog:

Most Britons are direct descendants of farmers who left modern day Iraq and Syria 10,000 years ago, a new study has shown.

After studying the DNA of more than 2,000 men, researchers say they have compelling evidence that four out of five white Europeans can trace their roots to the Near East.

That’s right. Most Europeans are from the Middle East. Take that, European Islamophobia!!! The Arabs already took over.

More Muslim-Americans in Washington?

A blog called Flopping Aces informs me that President Obama is actively looking for Muslims to join his administration.  Don’t ask why I am getting news from a blog written by people such as Scott who wrote a book called Saddam’s Ties to Al Qaeda or Curt who says, “I support President Bush 110%, and the War on Terror, and actively work to expose the ongoing liberal bias in our MSM.”  Anyway, they run the Denver Post story:

CHICAGO — In a bid to get more Muslim Americans working in the Obama administration, a book with resumes of 45 of the nation’s most qualified — Ivy League grads, Fortune 500 executives and public servants, all carefully vetted — has been submitted to the White House.

The effort, driven by community leaders and others, including U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., was bumped up two weeks because White House officials heard about the venture, said J. Saleh Williams, program coordinator for the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association, who sifted through more than 300 names.

“It was mostly under the radar,” Williams said. “We thought it would put (the president) in a precarious position. We didn’t know how closely he wanted to appear to be working with the Muslim American community.”

The Coulterite Islamophobes claim that Rep. Keith Ellison is connected to terrorism, naturally.   They also claim that Obama “puts Muslims first” because he said “America is a country of Muslims, Jews, Christians and non-believers,” during his Al Arabiya interview.  I’m not even going to bother to address those concerns.

It’s an interesting and intelligent idea to try to encourage diversity in Washington, though I suspect that just because there is some committee looking into it doesn’t mean anything noticeable will happen any time soon.  Also, the derisive tone with which Flopping Aces discussed Muslim Americans made me think about this photo by Platon in the New Yorker last year.
